Virtual Welding – welder training of the future

Do you want to practise manual and robot-assisted welding processes without any risk of injury or need for expensive consumables? The Virtual Welding simulation platform makes this possible. Beginners can use the platform to learn different processes in a virtual environment, yet under realistic conditions – a great way to prepare them for real welding applications.

What is Virtual Welding?

Virtual Welding is a simulator enabling users to learn how to weld in a realistic yet cost-effective and safe environment. Users are immersed in a digital world where they can learn and apply this knowledge. Simulations like these are already being widely used with great success to train pilots, train drivers or HGV drivers. In welder training too, the virtual environment simplifies the learning process, making it easier to enter the “real” world of welding.

How does virtual welder training work?

Virtual Welding consists of a PC terminal with a screen and a shelf on which the user places a plastic workpiece. A faithful replica of a real welding torch is then used to draw a virtual weld seam, which is reproduced in real time as a graphic on the screen. 3D glasses give users a realistic view of their work. “Ghost”, the virtual trainer, is a huge asset when learning how to handle the torch. It shows the path the torch should take and indicates the correct speed, angle and distance between torch and workpiece, giving direct, visual feedback when the student starts to drift away from one of the set values. This enhances the learning experience for trainees.

Benefits:

Virtual Welding offers a whole host of major benefits for training and educational establishments. Beginners can learn about the welding systems and complete their basic training without any safety risks whatsoever, and then go on to hone these skills in reality. Another advantage is that there’s no need to use expensive consumables such as metal, wire or gas. What’s more, the mature didactic learning system comprising training and simulation sequences ensures a high level of motivation and enables rapid progress. The welding results are recorded and the user can analyse and evaluate them either directly on the terminal or later on a PC. Administrators or trainers can configure courses to match the level of difficulty to the respective target group.

Obrigado.
